While our babies are young and not in school yet, we decided to take this year to go on a grand adventure! First stop was Mexico, a place near and dear to our hearts. I used to spend months at a time in Oaxaca when CZH produced woven rugs there and Alex and I got married at Casa Wabi in 2019 but I haven't returned since then. So we were due for a trip! there is something spiritual about Mexico for me, whenever I go I have a transcendent time with new revelations and new beginnings and this trip definitely fit the bill.
for this trip we took a month to explore some new (to us) areas, first stopping in Mexico city for a week, a weekend in Pilcaya, 3 weeks in San Pancho, and then ended with a weekend in Careyes. What I love most about Mexico is how fluid life feels there. Everything blended together so nicely - we walked to the beach every morning, drove golf carts to the market, napped by the ocean and cooked yummy meals at sunset all together all while also working - somehow it feels less staccato than other places to me. Below I am listing a few places from each spot that were the most memorable.
Mexico City:
I know this is an obvious one but I have to mention how cool Frida Khalo's house is, to me its a must see every time I go. We stayed in an area called Juarez and I loved walking around every day stumbling upon cute little shops and restaurants. many of you guys were asking about where we stayed! we rented this airbnb. cute but not amazing for kiddos as there are tricky stairs, FYI!
cicatriz was my favorite restaurant in Juarez with a super cute little park outside it for the girls to play
utilitario was my favorite shop in the area filled with curated Mexican crafts
I found GAG to be the most exciting brand in mexico right now. I got this fanny pack that I wear every day!
this was the coolest new home goods shop I saw. it was located on the top floor of an adorable home in Juarez
Pilcaya, Puebla:
we drove to this small town to see our nanny's home
San Pancho, Nayarit:
from Mexico city we flew to Puerta Vallarta and drove up the coast to San Pancho. we stayed in this amazing airbnb closer to the jungle which required us to have a little golf cart to get to town which the girls LOVED. was so fun riding in the open air with them
San Pancho is very small, and the main event is the beach which we really enjoyed. this coffee shop was really great and we went here for super yum dinner and this hotel was cute too. but we mostly cooked at home, swam in the pool and played at the beach. a very simple and needed existence for all of us!
Careyes, Jalisco:
We drove here for a quick weekend before our departure for our best friends wedding at cuixmala which was a literal dream. I loved the careyes beach club for the girls, they have these amazing heated pools that were so fun.
